Behind the Craft & the Masters
The Clickers
The Clicking Department forms the initial stage of our luxury bespoke shoes for men production. The name "Clickers" originates from the distinctive ‘click’ sound produced when the blade detaches from the leather. Within this department, highly skilled craftsmen utilize pre-designed patterns to meticulously carve out both the uppers and linings of premium footwear, such as patina Chelsea boots.
Our department is composed of an experienced team, where some craftspeople possess over four decades of expertise, alongside budding trainees. The newcomers primarily focus on cutting leather linings, while the seasoned Clickers handle the upper leather, expertly passing down their knowledge over time. Each Clicker's knife is a personalized tool, designed and ground according to individual preferences and working styles.
Crafting each clicking blade requires 15-20 minutes, broken down into fetching, grinding, and perfecting processes, typically on a strop coated in thick cordovan leather. Although blades may have a short lifespan of days or weeks, the handles are built to endure for decades.
A Clicker’s primary duty is to scrutinize leather for any imperfections to ensure flawless patina Chelsea boots. Defects such as barbed wire scars, disease marks, growth streaks, or veins must be skillfully avoided. Therefore, an experienced Clicker must be adept and knowledgeable to maximize leather usage without compromising quality.
